Begur is one of the main centres of tourist interest in Baix Empordà; it enjoys a significant history as a human settlement dating back to pre-historic times, and this settlement bore considerable importance in the Middle Ages, the era of feudalism. Begur Castle is the most representative symbol of this period, the history being characteristically reflected in the town’s urban backdrop with buildings constructed from that time by the “Indians” of Begur, Catalans from the region who immigrated to Cuba to seek their fortune.
